Summary: Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.
Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.
Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.
Review: When I bought this book I honestly didn't know if I would like it but this book exceeded any expectation I had.
I don't know why I didn't read this sooner! I've read so many reviews about how great this book was but for some reason I just didn't want to give it a shot. But then I finally did and it was honestly the best decision I've made.
I'm warning you now though: you will cry. I certainty wasn't expecting it but it felt like every chapter I had to wipe some tears away. Don't worry: the tears aren't a bad thing, in fact they're a good thing. This book was just a emotional roller coaster. Or maybe I'm just a big softie. I loved that poetry was a big part of this book. I've never been to a slam before but after reading this book I really want to go check them out.
Layken and Will have so much on their plate. I can't say much because I don't want to ruin any of the surprises in the book but you will definitely be shocked at certain things. I felt so bad for them at times because it seemed like things just weren't going their way at all.
Slammed is a must read! I'm so happy I gave this book a chance and you'd be missing out on an amazing book if you didn't do the same!
